    Minimally Invasive Spine Surgeon

    Dr. S. Craig Meyer, MD

Dr. Meyer is a native of Aurora, Missouri who completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He remained in Columbia and obtained his doctor of medicine graduating cum laude from the University of Missouri School of Medicine.

Dr. Meyer completed a one year internship in general surgery at the University of Missouri Hospitals & Clinics, and remained with the University to complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery. He narrowed his focus to the spine which took him to Los Angeles, California where he completed a combined orthopaedic and neurosurgery spine fellowship at the Institute for Spinal Disorders at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. In Los Angeles he trained with internationally recognized leaders in minimally invasive spine surgery, and it is one of the few spine fellowships to combine both orthopaedic and neurosurgical disciplines.

Upon completing his fellowship training, Dr. Meyer entered into private practice at the Silicon Valley Spine Institute in Los Gatos, California. In August of 2008, Dr. Meyer and his family returned to Missouri and he joined Columbia Orthopaedic Group where he continues to specialize in treatment of all disorders of the spine.

Dr. Meyer has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgical techniques. He initially focuses on conservative management of the patient; however, if surgery is required, he utilizes state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgical techniques, including those that involve complex instrumentation and deformity correction. In California, he was a designated surgeon for the western United States teaching other surgeons these techniques through participation in live surgeries.

Dr. Meyer is very active in educational speaking and training. He has authored several peer-reviewed articles and is involved in numerous ongoing research studies. He also is involved in designing new instrumentation systems applicable in minimally invasive spine surgery. Other individuals working directly with Dr. Meyer on his team are Lezlie Norris, PA-C, and administrative assistant, Debbie Love.

Dr. Meyer and his wife Chrissy live in Columbia, MO and have two daughters.
